Volunteer Treasurer at Englesea Brook Chapel & Museum

Englesea Brook is a peaceful hamlet south of Crewe and just a stone's throw from the M6 for easy access. The Georgian Chapel and Hugh Bourne's Memorial School now houses the Museum of Primitive Methodism and its collection, which reflects a long history of music, literature, faith and social justice. The collection is unique and valuable and attracts the attention of scholars from across the world. A registered charity, which is part of the Chester and Stoke Methodist District, it receives funding from various sources including the sales from the nearby Hassall Road Book Emporium in Alsager, and the on-site Tea Room.
The Executive Committee wish to appoint a new Voluntary Treasurer, to continue the good work of the current Treasurer who is retiring from the role. Briefly, duties involve:
> Maintaining a record of all financial transactions and accompanying documents
> Reporting on a monthly basis to the Director and Executive Committee
> Regular liaison with the Director
> Submitting accounts and records to the District Treasurer annually
> Liaison with the Payroll Bureau
> Preparing financial forecasts annually
> Banking cash payments and providing cash floats
> Paying bills
> Liaison with Methodist Insurance
> Annual Gift Aid submission
> Management of bank account with the Director
> Provision of financial information for grant applications
Currently book-keeping and accounts are prepared using SAGE and card transactions processed through SumUp, so familiarity with these systems would be useful but not essential, as the current Treasurer will facilitate a detailed handover. All duties other than the handling of cash can be completed from home. Our current Treasurer estimates that he spends around 12½ hours per week on the role which varies depending on circumstances. Some weeks are much less but other weeks are busier, particularly around year end or reporting.
